There's a Community BBQ going on at 6 PM on Tuesday, July 11th, at the Evangelical Free Church of Erskine. Then an outdoor concert by "Crimson River" will be held at 7 PM. The Stettler United Church is in need of parent and youth volunteers for their Day Camp coming up July 17th to the 21st. Those able to give their time from 9 AM to noon those days, or folks looking to register should call the church office at (403) 742-3387 or email stettuc@telusplanet.net.

Stettler Old Tyme Dance Club dances take place on the third Thursday of the month at The Hub. (upstairs at the Stettler Rec Centre) The next dance is on August 13th, 2017. This will be a "County Gems" theme, and will feature an afternoon summer dance from 1 to 5 PM. A poyluck supper to be held afterwards will cost $10 admission. $20 per person, Dance only $10. The I.O.D.E has provided us with dates for their Annual Rummage Sale. You can drop off your usable items at the Stettler Curling Rink from 5 to 8 PM, on July 17th and the 31st. They'll also take items on August 14th and the 28th, as well as Sept. 11th and the week of September 17th to the 20th. The date for the 2017 Rummage Sale will be September 22nd and 23rd at the Stettler Curling Rink and at the Agriplex.

Big Valley will soon play host to the 14th annual Metis Hivernant Days coming up August 4th to the 6th. A full weekend of events are in store that will include train and Red River cart rides, as well as fishing lessons, drum, and even bannock making stations. Voyager Games, a church service and talent contest wrap up the event that Sunday. A supper and dance will also be held at the Big Valley Jubilee Hall on Main Street for $12 admission. The 'Taste of the Heartland Long Table Supper' takes place on Saturday, August 19th. It consists of bus tours of farms across the Stettler region, as well as a "field to table meal" in the evening for 150 people to mark Canada's 150th birthday. The event takes place during the Alberta's "Open Farm Days" and will showcase local produce prepared by Albertan chefs. Tickets can still be purchased through the Stettler Board of Trade at (403) 742-3181.

The 28th Rumsey Ride For S.T.A.R.S will be held at the TL Bar Ranch east of Trochu on Hwy 585 on Sunday, August 13th. Participants must register with a minimum $20 plegde to take part in the trail ride. Riders are asked to bring their own lunch and water for the ride. There will also be a breakfast held that morning by the Rumsey Volunteer Fire Department from 9-11 AM. $5/plate and those 6 and under eat for free. Lunch and supper are also available to purchase. Finally, there's  a "Ducks & Dog" demonstration, as well as a Poker Rally and silent auction. For more information call (403) 384-2132.

This year's edition of the Stettler Pheasant Festival will be October 12th to the 15th. The four day event will feature full and half day private pheasant hunts, a banquet & dog training. There's also a culinary cooking event, trap shooting competition, and a beginner hunt to take part in. Read and Rhyme Playtime happens on Wednesday's and Friday's at 11am in the meeting room upstairs at the Stettler Rec. Centre. Pre-schoolers and their parents are invited to join and enjoy stories and songs plus more.
